In this team activity, my team asked to design a structure that met the following requirements:
The top of the structure must have a platform that will allow two TOYS to look around at the views of the bay.
The model’s platform height should be at least 12 inches above ground level to provide a great view (when scaled).
The structure must remain standing in high winds (created by a fan/hair dryer/etc.), primarily blowing from the west.
The structure must be aesthetically attractive.
Construction materials consist of one box of standard playing cards and [masking] tape. Construction equipment includes the tape roll and a pair of scissors (may be sharp - be careful). A ruler is provided as a temporary resource but may not be used in the final structure.
The final design must be capable of storing the scissors, the tape roll, and any unused construction materials.
The project must be completed in 30 minutes.
My team worked together to build the structure shown below. My main contributions included brainstorming the idea for the base of the structure and building one of the sides that held up the card box (viewing platform). This was the first project my team did together so it was a good warm-up and introduction to how our group will work together the rest of the quarter. We worked together very well for our first time and everyone was able to contribute to the overall project.
